Ontario Studios Primed for Eh! Game Showcase at VGLX

The Eh! Game Showcase at this month’s VGLX in Mississauga celebrates some of Ontario’s most exciting indie creators, each bringing their unique spin on play to the show floor.

Featured Ontario titles include:

• Soft Rains Studio – Ambrosia Sky, a gorgeous sci-fi action game centered around cleaning up deadly organisms that have taken over a space station and laying the dead to rest.
• Bloom Digital Media – Disney Villains Cursed Café, a beautiful visual novel and cafe crafter starring some of Disney’s most iconic baddies.
• Thousand Stars Studio – Aikyam, a rhythm-puzzle adventure game wrapped in vibrant visuals and music.
• Little Buffalo Studios – Akiiwan: Survival, a unique and beautiful survival game where a mysterious talking fire helps you survive and thrive against the elements.
• Achimostawinan Games – Hill Agency: PURITYdecay, a futuristic noir mystery story set in a bustling Indigenous Metropolis.
• Billy’s Cookies – Make a Hit!, a kinetic, 1980s-inspired music-making adventure about creativity and cassette tapes.
• OK_XR Studio – Archer – Virtual Realms, a VR archery game set in a fantastical world where you can battle monsters and compete against other players.
• Sticky Brain Studios – Rooster, a painterly puzzle adventure about a rooster celebrating family, food, and ancient Chinese culture.
• Game Pill – Hangry, an eye-catching “snack-and-slash” RPG about exploring strange new worlds, discovering new life, and eating it.
• Lofty Sky Entertainment – Sky of Tides, an action-packed sci-fi narrative RPG exploring personal choice, destiny, and planetary politics.
• Kitten Cup Studios – Capy Castaway, a cozy adventure centered around the unexpected friendship of a capybara and a crow.
• Numizmatic – Astronomics, a top-down space exploration meets mining strategy game set in the far reaches of the asteroid belt.
• City from Naught – Brave New Wonders, a city builder meets factory automation game set in a stunning post-apocalyptic world.

These projects showcase Ontario’s creative range – from heartfelt stories and satisfying puzzlers, to cozy crafters and expansive adventures – and highlight the province’s reputation as a powerhouse for original, diverse voices in gaming.

Canadian Gamers by the Numbers: ESAC’s “Power of Play 2025” Report

The Entertainment Software Association of Canada’s new Power of Play 2025 report offers the clearest snapshot yet of how Canadians engage with games today – and the results highlight a thriving, inclusive, and expanding player base.

Here are some highlights from the report:

• 51% of Canadian gamers are women, underscoring the continued growth of gender diversity in the sector.
  Mobile reigns supreme, with 52% of respondents choosing phones and tablets as their primary platform, ahead of consoles and PCs.
• Games are good for us – 80% of players say gaming helps them de-stress, and 70% say it simply makes them happier.
• Connection through play remains strong, with 74% believing games unite people from different backgrounds.

The report’s findings reinforce what Ontario studios already know: creativity, accessibility, and emotional resonance are shaping the next era of play in Canada.

Coming Soon: Video Game Live Expo (VGLX)

As mentioned above, the upcoming Video Game Live Expo (VGLX) kicks off October 25-26, 2025, at the Mississauga Convention Centre, offering a fan-first weekend of games, cosplay, and community. Expect indie demos, eSports tournaments, creator panels, artist showcases, and the debut of the aforementioned Eh! Game Showcase, spotlighting the best in Canadian indie development.
